“We rest here while we can, but we hear the ocean calling in our dreams. And we know by the morning, the wind will fill our sails to test the seams. The calm is on the water and part of us would linger by the shore. For ships are safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.”
– Michael Lille
We are nowhere and it’s now
We love this song! And apparently we’re not the only ones – someone left this at our wall 🙂

Top 5 August Happenings
This year’s summer may feel like October (we’re still blessed with 10 C and rain up here…), but luckily the weather isn’t the only factor defining the season. More important than the number of hours with sunshine and degrees above 20 C is the number of festivals and the amount of fun you can have attending them. Here’s our top 5 picks for the Tromsø area in August:
Havnnesfestivalen Happening now! Havnnes, Uløy island, August 2nd-4th. Oh so much great music in oh such a beautiful place! Karlsøyfestivalen Karlsøy island, August 7th-12thTaking place at the small and stunningly beautiful Karlsøy island north of Tromsø, it’s alternative, hippie, colorful, different, genuine and not to be missed!
Lilacs
Summer in Tromsø: May lilacs and October rain. The calendar says July, but who could tell? It keeps raining. We forgot what the sun feels like. But the lilacs… the incredibly delightful summer smell when you open the door.
Jeff Buckley helps too. The rain on the windows and a house full of books. A cup of tea and some maps to plan the next hike up a mountain, this too could make for a summer day, in October or May or July… under a lilac tree, under a concrete sky.
Tidy up… Quick!
It’s raining in Tromsø today. Again… Perfect weather for paying bills, drinking coffee and doing some organizing of all the brochures, flyers and maps floating around the house. So that one fine day when you come by, by chance or by will or by a sudden itch on a sunny day, they will all sit neatly organized on the shelf on top of the stairs, waiting for you to plan your Tromsø day over a self-prepared breakfast or a nice cup of evening tea. In the meantime, there’s the sound of rain on the roof. Paper in our hands and music in the air. And everything just seems so much brighter with this fantastic video from the Magnetic Fields.
